False Mane Wefts

Mane wefts are exceptional for horses that have either rubbed their manes out, lost the thickness they use to have, or for ones that have a bit of sweet itch.

Mane wefts come in two different styles / sizes 

(1) Traditional Length: Coarse Hair that will curl/frizz up when washed - Perfect for Traditional Coloureds, Fells, Dales and all other types of hairies.

Measurements: Width 25cms (10") and length 50cms (20")

(2) Native Length: Made from a lighter blend of mane hairs that are easier to weft in and perfect for plaiting, natives, welsh ponies and cobs and also good for youngsters that haven't yet got to their full traditional length

Measurements: Width 25cms (10") and length 28 cms (11")

Fitting hints and tips:

People fit the mane wefts in a number of different ways. You will always manage to find a way that suits you and your horse. We struggle to show videos as all horses and ponies have different issues and different levels of hair loss. But below we have put a guide of how most people feed back their successes. 

Sewn in as a weft: Do a small running plait along the underside base of the mane (as close to the neck as possible) then stitch along the mane weft to secure the mane weft to the plait, then comb over the top layer of hair (even if just tufts) then use the GLEAM Sculpt product to hold down the mane in place and keep all flyaways neat and tidy. 

Glued in: You can do a small anchor plait at either side of the bald patch and then stitch each side to the anchor plait. Then use the SPP Mane glue along the neck to secure (let it get tacky prior to sticking down) then to remove the glue you use baby oil or olive oil. 

When using glue, don't use any oil based products on the mane as this will disintegrate the glue

Clip In: You can purchase clips from our website and attach the clips with a normal cotton and thread every inch or 2 inches along the weft then clip in on the underside of the mane and push over all wisps to cover the top of the weft.
